Why Workshops?
Each year, since 1987, scholars, artists and enthusiasts have come to Monasterevin to celebrate Hopkins's creativity. Over the years, arising from the synergy of this enthusiasm, Workshops have developed and are now a central part of our Summer School.
Creative Writing Workshop
Share your creativity with a group of fellow-travellers in the Creative Writing Workshop. Each year, a Poet or established Writer shares insights with you; reads your Poems or Writing and offers constructive advice. This is our oldest Workshop and it is still as popular as ever. Participants bring samples of their work and, in a positive and supportive atmosphere, suggestions are made and possibilities investigated. This year, the How to Write Workshop will be facilitated by Lynn Carroll Cohen (New York)..
Multilingual Translation Workshop
In the multicultural environment of The Hopkins International Literary Festival, with visitors from across the globe, a Multilingual Translation Workshop naturally suggested itself. But this is a Translation Workshop with a difference, a Multilingual Translation Workshop. Each year, participants, under able guidance, explore the challenges of translating a Hopkins poems into global languages. A useful way to gain further insight into the poetry that forms the central interest of our Summer School. We believe our Multilingual Translation is a unique and innovative addition to our enjoyment and exploraton of the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins. We also think there is no better way to really get into the very heart of any Hopkins poem. Come to Monasterevin - the Multilingual Translation Workshop will ensure that you will know more about at least one of Hopkins's poems than you ever thought possible!
